Curves Members Lose over 950 lbs in 30 minutes!!!

Curves Gym for Women at 54 High Street Brentwood looks very different at the moment!

The members finish their stretching routines surrounded by a mountain of non perishable groceries. They have also collected toiletries to be donated to Basildon Women’s Refuge.

This year the donations weigh in at a staggering 950lbs and have taken just a few weeks to collect.

Curves waived their joining fee to new members and asked existing members to bring in donations. They were entered into a weekly raffle for special edition t-shirts.

Several years ago when we were searching for a recipient for the food drive, a member suggested the refuge as she remembered turning up there with her mother one night with only her teddy and pyjamas.

As a women’s gym, we feel that our members have an empathy with a charity which supports local women and children at times of crisis.

The food was collected on Monday 20th April and all the members and staff feel a lot lighter now.

In October we raised funds for Cancer Research UK.  We lost one of our members to Myeloma in July and wanted to raise funds for Myeloma research as well as Breast Cancer research. We had lots of fun eating cakes, painting nails pink, missing the squat and sponsoring members who did the 9k Thorndon Stride. Curves sponsored the water for this event. We raised awareness about breast health by demonstrating and selling the Liv-Aid Breast Self Examination Kit, promoting facts and figures about breast health around the circuit and inviting M&S staff to come and do bra fitting in the gym.

We have donated joining fees from all members who joined this month.

In total we raised a staggering £2716.50!!
Thank You Ladies - You're amazing!

Charities supported in the past year include:

  • Breast Cancer Campaign, raising more than £1200 while raising awareness of good breast health
  • and many more...
